Autonomous Maserati MC20 Speed Record
An AI-guided, autonomous Maserati MC20 coupe managed to hit 197.7 mph during the 2025 Indy Autonomous Challenge (IAC) at Kennedy Space Center. It was conducted at the Launch and Landing Facility used by NASA spacecraft because it provides around 15,000 feet of runway to play with.

Power comes from twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 rated for 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This Maserati MC20 was not remote-controlled by a human from the side either, but rather guided by artificial intelligence from Politecnico di Milano and modified to run autonomously.

The goal of high-speed tests is to evaluate the behavior of robo-drivers in extreme conditions. These AI systems have been tested in production vehicles at legal road speeds in the Indy Autonomous Challenge races since 2021. The AIDA team used this test to push the boundaries of autonomous driving, improving safety and reliability,” said Prof. Sergio Matteo Savaresi, Scientific Director of the project and Director of the Department of Electronics, Information, and Bioengineering at the Politecnico di Milano.
