YouTube sensation iShowSpeed made a rather chaotic appearance on CBS Sports’ Champions League show on Wednesday night.

The 20-year-old American, who has 36.4 million subscribers on YouTube, was invited onto the show after playing a charity match with football legend Thierry Henry recently.

His cameo, which came following Liverpool’s stunning Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain, began with former Liverpool and England defender Jamie Carragher posing a ‘serious question’.

‘Can I ask you a serious question?’ he asked. ‘How have you become so famous? How has this happened? What is your skill? I can’t work it out.’

It was the first of many playful back-and-forths between Carragher, a Champions League winner with Liverpool and former England star, and one of the most successful YouTubers in the world.

In a light-hearted segment, iShowSpeed proceeded to claim he had ambitions of playing professional football – much to the amusement of Henry – and reaffirmed his belief that Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest player of all time ahead of long-time rival Lionel Messi.

iShowSpeed then confidently declared he was ‘faster than Thierry Henry’, which also produced laughs from Carragher and ex-England defender Micah Richards, although the YouTuber has shown his speed previously in races with the likes of Noah Lyles, the reigning 100m Olympic champion.

It was then that Carragher and iShowSpeed agreed to race in the corridors of the CBS Sports studio. ‘I brought my trainers,’ Carragher said. ‘I’m more than ready.’

The pair went head-to-head during an advert break – with Richards acting as the judge on the start line – and iShowSpeed recovered from some skulduggery from Carragher to power to the finish line.

The win came at a cost, though, with iShowSpeed ripping his ‘too tight trousers’ during the race. Still, he was able to enjoy the victory.

‘Wow, you cheated and I still beat you,’ he said. ‘You pushed me, you cheated and you still lost. What you got to say, Jamie?’

Noticing Speed’s ripping trousers, Carragher said: ‘I didn’t realise you were that nervous.’

The chaos continued when the gang returned to the studio, with iShowSpeed and Carragher engaging in two arm wrestling matches before the YouTube star marked his exit by back-flipping off a table.

Explaining his admiration for Ronaldo earlier in the show, iShowSpeed said: ‘I think Ronaldo is the GOAT. Everyone has their own opinion but, for me, he is the GOAT.

‘He is my inspiration, even when it comes to YouTubing, he’s my inspiration. Ronaldo has done it in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and dominated everywhere. Messi played in one [major] league.’

Carragher was in an understandably good mood on the show after watching his former club Liverpool snatch a 1-0 win over PSG in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.

PSG dominated throughout but were repeatedly denied by a world-class performance from Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Liverpool then scored a late winner against the run of play through Harvey Elliott to put themselves on top ahead of the second leg at Anfield next week.

‘I have had some very good players as a manager but never the best goalkeeper in the world until now,’ Liverpool boss Arne Slot said in reference to Brazilian shot-stopper Alisson.

‘He showed that he is the best in the world today. To go away with a win here was probably a bit more than we deserved.’

PSG manager Luis Enrique added: ‘It is difficult to think about the match in a positive way.

‘We deserved to win. The best player of Liverpool was their goalkeeper. Football is many times unfair.

‘We don’t have anything lose and we are ready for Liverpool. Of course, we are going to do it.’
