Owen Hargreaves has named Alejandro Garnacho’s best position after he did not play on the left wing for Manchester United against Arsenal.

Former United star Hargreaves heaped praise on Garnacho after his former club drew 1-1 against the Gunners in the Premier League on Sunday.

Hargreaves feels Garnacho was a ‘shining light’ for the Red Devils following his performance on the right wing in the clash at Old Trafford.

Garnacho has featured 15 times as a left winger for United this season, producing six goals and three assists when deployed in that position.

The 20-year-old Argentine has also been used seven times on the right wing, where he has registered one goal and two assists.

Quizzed about Garnacho on Premier League Productions, Hargreaves said: ‘Do you know what? We’ve seen him playing on the left [wing].

‘He’s quite effective coming inside, but I actually don’t mind him on the right because he has to pass the ball more.

‘When he plays on the left, he comes inside and he shoots. He created a lot for his teammates [against Arsenal].’

The football pundit has urged United not to sell Garnacho amid rumours that he could be heading for the exit door in the summer transfer window.

Hargreaves would much rather see United boss Ruben Amorim build his team around the likes of Garnacho and fellow youngster Kobbie Mainoo.

‘He’s a really, really good player and I really wouldn’t want to see him go,’ Hargreaves added. ‘In a way, you’ve got to build around him and Kobbie Mainoo.’

There has been speculation that United may look to offload the likes of Garnacho and Mainoo to help with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Both players progressed through United’s academy, meaning a potential sale would represent pure profit for the club.

‘You’ve got to build around these young guys,’ Hargreaves said. ‘I know they might need to sell them for financial reasons but I want them to play here and see them grow, improve and enjoy the good times that we had.

‘[Garnacho] was the shining light [against Arsenal]. Him and Bruno [Fernandes] were the ones pushing the team forward when they needed it.’

Chelsea were linked to both Garnacho and Mainoo in the recent January transfer window.

Jeff Stelling warned Chelsea over signing Garnacho and said that the United winger was the ‘last thing’ they needed.

‘With [Pedro] Neto, [Noni] Madueke, [Jadon] Sancho… surely a Garnacho is the last thing Chelsea need?’ Stelling said in January.
