Sir Jim Ratcliffe names the manager Manchester United should never have appointed | Football

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has named the one manager Manchester United have hired in the post Sir Alex Ferguson era that he would not have appointed.
The legendary Scot stood down in 2013 after leading the Red Devils to the Premier League title, gaining revenge on Manchester City who stole their crown away 12 months earlier.
In the intervening period, including various caretakers and interim bosses,10 different men have tried and failed to emulate the most successful manager in United’s history.
Ratcliffe made the most recent change in the dugout after belatedly opting to part company with Erik ten Hag having given the Dutchman a say of execution in the summer.
The INEOS chief, who assumed control of all football making decisions 12 months ago, admitted earlier this week that it was a mistake to have given Ten Hag more time to prove his was the right man for the job.

After Ruud van Nistelrooy’s brief spell at the helm, Ruben Amorim arrived in November and Ratcliffe is adamant the Portuguese will ultimately be the man to restore the glory days at Old Trafford.
United’s history of hiring the wrong man, according to Ratcliffe, dates back to the arrival of David Moyes who has handpicked by Ferguson as his reign drew to a close.

Look, I like David Moyes, and I think he’s a really good manager, but to go from Sir Alex Ferguson to Moyes is not where I would have gone,’ said Ratcliffe.
‘Moyes stepped into the shoes of Ferguson, who’s won the Premier League 13 times, who won the Champions League twice and then you’re handing over to a guy that has never managed big players and had never won anything.
‘He’s not necessarily got the personality to stand in front of them all. And I don’t think Real Madrid would have made that choice as coach.
‘If you look at coaches, a club can’t always get it right, but they should have found the best chief executive in the world, and the best coach in the world, because Manchester United is the best club in the world. Instead they got both of those decisions wrong.’
