9,000mAh Elecom DE-C55L-9000 is World’s First Sodium-Ion Power Bank

The MARK_B_Case Apple Watch power bank may look more intriguing, but the technology inside Elecom’s DE-C55L-9000 may be far superior. It’s touted as the world’s first sodium-ion power bank and promises a longer cycle life (5,000 charges) than traditional lithium-ion batteries, as well as the ability to operate in extreme environments, both hot and cold (-35C to 50C).

This 9,000-mAh battery sports a 45-W USB Type-C and an 18-W Type-A port, while an LED charging indicator shows just how much power is left. Elecom also states that conventional mobile batteries use rare metals such as cobalt and lithium, but these pose human rights as well as environmental pollution issues related to safety during mining. Available now in Japan, priced at around $67 USD.
