2007 Ford Airstream Concept
This futuristic Ford Airstream concept debuted in 2007 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Fans of retro-futurism will appreciate its look, which was inspired by the iconic Airstream trailers from the 1930s.

Starting from the outside, you’ll notice an ultra sleek fuselage-like shape with a reflective finish that mimics aluminum, while asymmetric doors (including a large passenger-side clamshell hatch), and a bold front grille, complete with 12 ceremonial rivets echoing Airstream’s classic construction, finish off the look. What really set it apart from other concepts at the time is it HySeries Drive powertrain, or a plug-in hybrid hydrogen fuel cell system that ran entirely on electric power. Electric motors drove the wheels, supported by a lithium-ion battery pack recharged by a Ballard Power Systems hydrogen fuel cell or an AC outlet. It has a 25-mile range on battery alone, extending to 305 miles with a full hydrogen load, and boasted a fuel economy equivalent of 41 mpg (combined city/highway).

The Ford Airstream Concept captures the sense of optimism and adventure conveyed in American aircraft and spacecraft, right down to its organic, fuselage-inspired form language, the Ford-first unique reflective paint and 12 ceremonial rivets, which pay homage to Airstream’s iconic construction,” said the company.
