Digital Journal joins Team Calgary to elevate voices in Alberta’s innovation economy

Calgary’s economy is growing and diversifying, and Digital Journal is going all in to help tell its story.

As one of Canada’s largest innovation publications, Digital Journal today announced it has joined Team Calgary, a corporate partnership program led by Calgary Economic Development. The company joins Team Calgary to deepen its involvement in Alberta and highlight the companies, entrepreneurs, and industries shaping the city’s future.

Team Calgary is a network of private-sector leaders working together to support Calgary’s economic growth, innovation, and business community. The program brings together companies across industries to share insights, collaborate on key initiatives, and spotlight the work being done to build Calgary’s future. Through partnerships with businesses of all sizes, Team Calgary helps ensure that the city’s innovators, job creators, and change-makers have a strong voice in shaping what comes next.

Digital Journal’s decision to join Team Calgary reflects the company’s growing investment in Western Canada. The publication has been expanding its team and coverage in Alberta, recognizing the province’s pivotal role in Canada’s innovation economy. 

“Western Canada has no shortage of world-class innovators, but too often, their stories don’t get the attention they deserve,” said Digital Journal CEO, Chris Hogg. “We’re joining Team Calgary because we believe in the power of storytelling to elevate the city and its innovators onto a national and global scale.”

That momentum is impossible to ignore. 

Calgary has emerged as one of North America’s fastest-growing tech hubs, with the city’s tech workforce increasing by 78 percent over the past five years, according to CBRE’s 2024 Scoring Tech Talent report. More than 26,000 new tech jobs have been added, outpacing all other major North American markets in tech talent growth. The 2024 Global Startup Ecosystem Report by Startup Genome also found that Calgary’s tech startups generated $8.1 billion in economic value between 2021 and 2023, a 237% increase from previous years.

From energy transition and AI, to advanced manufacturing and fintech, Calgary is home to companies making a global impact.
