Liverpool have confirmed that Alisson has withdrawn from Brazil’s squad after suffering a suspected concussion on international duty.

Alisson clashed heads with Davinson Sanchez during Brazil’s 2-1 win over Colombia in their World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.

Both the Liverpool goalkeeper and Sanchez were substituted.

Speaking after the game, Brazil’s team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, revealed that Alisson had ‘minor complaints’ after his collision with the Colombia defender.

‘Alisson suffered a head injury and was replaced due to a suspected concussion,’ Lasmar said.

‘We will now follow the CBF protocol, and he will undergo the recommended imaging tests, a CT scan and then a diffusion MRI. If all the tests are normal, we will proceed and perform a cognitive test. Then we will evaluate the player.

‘If everything is normal, we will continue to monitor the situation over the next few days. Today, we will do the tests and all the necessary assessments.

‘I believe you saw the images of him on the bench and after the game. He is completely normal now, without any complaints. During the treatment on the pitch he did not report any fainting or memory loss, he was conscious and oriented the whole time.

‘We substituted him because he had minor complaints, he thought he was a little slower and there was some possibility of a concussion, so in cases of this suspicion, the recommendation is to substitute the player.’

However, Liverpool confirmed on Friday afternoon that Alisson has now left Brazil’s camp and will return to Merseyside.

A statement from Liverpool read: ‘The goalkeeper was forced off in the second half of his nation’s World Cup qualifier with Colombia in the early hours of Friday following a collision.

‘Alisson is travelling back to Merseyside and will undergo assessment from the Reds’ medical staff.’
