Madonna launches charity initiative to support Raising Malawi’s Journey To Care

Madonna, the “Queen of Pop,” recently launched a new charity initiative to help support Raising Malawi.

On March 11th, Madonna gathered an influential group of friends and supporters at Diane von Furstenberg’s headquarters in New York City.

This event was hosted by actress and comedian Amy Schumer, and it featured a piano performance by Madonna’s daughter, Mercy James.

Several notable guests who were present to lend a helping hand included Chris Rock and Lauren Sanchez.

This event also marked the official launch of Raising Malawi’s renewed initiatives, which aim to improve the lives of Malawi’s children through healthcare, education, arts, and athletics.

While Madonna is constantly in the news (and has been her entire career), her charitable causes are the ones that need the most media and press attention and coverage.

Background on Raising Malawi

Raising Malawi is a nonprofit organization that she founded. It is dedicated to transforming the lives of children in Malawi, especially through the life-saving healthcare provided at The Mercy James Hospital, which is named after her daughter Mercy.

With a population of 20 million, half of which are children, Malawi is still one of the poorest nations in the globe. As a result, this makes the need for support more critical than ever.

In a press statement, Madonna remarked, “The thing I’m most proud of in my life is the work I’ve done helping vulnerable children in Africa, particularly in Malawi, and of course, my incredible, beautiful children.”

“I’ve always believed that every child deserves a chance to thrive. Your support of Raising Malawi means the world to these children and to all of us who are working tirelessly to make a difference,” Madonna elaborated.

Madonna and Raising Malawi joined forces and announced a new way for people to get involved: by becoming a Raising Malawi Partner.

This opportunity allows supporters to make a meaningful, lasting impact by committing to monthly donations that directly support critical healthcare operations and provide essential resources for Malawi’s most vulnerable children.

Every contribution plays a pivotal role in ensuring children receive the urgent care they desperately need.

Helping the Mercy James Institute

The evening helped raise funds for Raising Malawi’s flagship initiative, The Mercy James Institute for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care, which provides life-saving surgeries to 2,000 children per year and is a critical hub in training pediatric surgical and intensive care health workers for the country.

Other causes supported by Raising Malawi

Additionally, Raising Malawi supports the Jacaranda School for Orphans, the Home of Hope Children’s Homes, and Ascent Soccer—an initiative that is focused on empowering young athletes in Malawi.
