Man Utd enter race to sign Newcastle United star for cut-price transfer fee | Football

Manchester United have joined the race to sign Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff in the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had targeted a move for Longstaff during his time as United manager in 2019 but the club were put off by Newcastle’s £50 million asking price.
So far this season, the 27-year-old has started just eight Premier League games and he was left on the bench for Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final last Sunday.
Longstaff will have just a year remaining on his contract in the summer and according to Chronicle Live, both United and Everton have registered their interest in the midfielder.
The report adds that Longstaff would be reluctant to leave his boyhood club but is keen to secure regular playing time.

Longstaff’s sale for Newcastle would also be regarded as ‘pure profit’ in the Premier League’s PSR rules as he came through the club’s academy.

Speaking about United’s interest in 2019, Longstaff said: ‘You can sometimes get distracted by the outside noise and maybe for a little bit in the summer I was a bit.
‘It’s hard not to whenever you go anywhere you see your face on the front of a newspaper and you turn the telly on people are talking about you.

‘And it’s not like they’re talking about little things, they’re talking about things that can change your life really.
‘The expectation is half what I’ve done and it’s probably a good thing.
‘It does just go to show I did impress people when I got my chance last year.
‘So for me it’s about not listening to them and sticking to what I do.’
