Myles Lewis-Skelly brought fun but England must improve versus Latvia | Football

THE Sex Pistols, minus Johnny Rotten, played a secret gig at the 100 Club in London on Friday where they covered The Stooges’ No Fun. Anyone watching England’s drab World Cup qualifier against Albania a few miles up the road at Wembley may have shared that feeling.
Sure, the Three Lions won 2-0 thanks to goals from Myles Lewis-Skelly and Harry Kane but the overall performance was just as frustrating and unsatisfactory as when Gareth Southgate was in charge.
New boss Thomas Tuchel didn’t sing the national anthem, which has already got up the backs of some supporters, but would surely have enjoyed jumping around to The Pistols blistering rendition of God Save The Queen.
England had 74.2 per cent possession against Albania but mustered just six shots on target and Tuchel admitted they will have to be better than that if they want to finally win a World Cup or European Championship. If not, there’s going to be Anarchy in the UK.
Admittedly his men hit the woodwork a couple of times but all the same it wasn’t the greatest start in the international game for the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager and much more will be expected as a very mediocre Group K progresses.
Hopefully, it will be more entertaining when Latvia visit Wembley for the second match in the qualifying schedule but don’t expect it to be a thunderous start to the week.
The visitors scraped their way to a 1-0 win at Andorra on Friday and will presumably also play a low block as they seek damage limitation against the Three Lions.

Bayern striker Kane is 23/10 with William Hill to open the scoring, Declan Rice is 5/1 with bet365 and Sky Bet to find the net at any time and let’s pray for a slight improvement and back a 3-0 victory at 24/5 with Sporting Index and SpreadEx.
In all honesty, though, watching England at the moment is hardly a must-see draw and yours truly would much rather spend his Monday night with the Pistols as they raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust at the Royal Albert Hall. Anyone got a spare?
• Aryna Sabalenka may find it hard work when she faces defending champion Danielle Collins at the Miami Open in the round of 16. Sabalenka was the beaten finalist at Indian Wells and in the Australian Open and has yet to triumph this year while Collins has yet to hit the heights of 12 months ago.
She did lose to eventual winner Madison Keys in Melbourne, however, and being beaten by Elina Svitolina in the first leg of the Sunshine Double last week is no disgrace so it could be worth having a small flutter on Collins to cause an upset at 9/2 with Ladbrokes and Coral.
• Remember when Denis Shapovalov was going to be the next big thing on the ATP Tour? The Canadian’s stock has fallen since then because of injuries and loss of form but he did win the Dallas Open at the beginning of February, beating Tommy Paul in the semi-finals and Casper Ruud in the final, so have a small investment on him to defeat Taylor Fritz in Miami at the 2/1 chalked up by Betway.
