US Air Force Boeing F-47 6th Gen Fighter Jet NGAD
The US Air Force has selected Boeing to develop the F-47, a 6th-generation fighter jet based on the Next-Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) platform. How did this come about? This decision narrowed to between Boeing and Lockheed Martin, with Northrop Grumman having withdrawn from the contest earlier.



The NGAD program aims to produce a cutting-edge air superiority fighter to replace the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor, with fielding expected in the 2030s. Just the engineering and manufacturing development sections of the contract is reportedly valued at over $20 billion, with the total program potentially costing hundreds of billions over its lifespan, considering production as well as maintenance.
