GeoGuessr Steam Edition Pits Players Against Each Other in Duels

Whether it be enjoyed on the Steam Deck or just a gaming PC, GeoGuessr Steam Edition puts a twist on the browser-based geography game GeoGuessr, which has been around since 2013. The original game, created by Anton Wallén, drops players into random Google Street View locations and challenges them to guess where they are, using visual clues like signs, landscapes, and architecture.
Unlike the browser-based version, which offers a variety of modes (including solo exploration and custom maps), the Steam Edition zeroes in on Duels—both solo and team-based. Solo Duels pit you against players worldwide in a ranked system, starting at the Amateur Division and climbing to Champion Division. Unranked Team Duels, meanwhile, let you play casually with friends, and notably, this mode will be free to play, while unlocking the complete Solo Duels mode requires a GeoGuessr Steam Pass.

The focus on Duels also sets it apart from the browser’s broader scope—there’s no mention of the classic solo exploration mode at launch, which might disappoint players who love wandering Japan or other specific regions at their own pace. You can play the web-based version here now.
