GingerOfOz Wiiboy Color 2.0 Retro Gaming Handheld
You could either turn an old Nintendo Wii into a Mac Mini, or use its motherboard to build a Wiiboy Color 2.0. Modder GingerOfOz’s latest creation builds upon its predecessor, and is essentially a portable Nintendo Wii, shrunk down to roughly the size of a Game Boy Color, capable of running both Wii and GameCube games natively.

How so? This is achieved by using a real Wii motherboard, trimmed and reconfigured to fit the compact form factor. The original Wiiboy Color, completed way back in 2020 after nine months of work, set the stage with a heavily modified Wii board—cut into smaller pieces to minimize space while retaining full functionality. The 2.0 version refines this process further with a cleaner circuit board layout to streamline assembly, while also adding an upgraded 480p display, Hall-effect joysticks to eliminate drift, and larger as well as flatter rear trigger buttons.

Wow! That’s absolutely amazing. Not only in design but also the general idea and craftsmanship that went into this. Truly a technical genius. Also. I feel inspired. I want to learn more about electronics. Now that I can see how much is possible. (Mainly to repair my Nintendo 2Ds.),” said one commenter.
