Live-Action Legend of Zelda Film Release Date
Finally, the live-action Legend of Zelda film, first announced back in November 2023, has got an official theatrical release date of March 26, 2027. This was confirmed today via the Nintendo Today app, which puts it just under two years away, giving the team plenty of time to bring Hyrule to life.

Nintendo partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment for the project, with the former footing more than 50% of the bill while the latter handles global distribution. Shigeru Miyamoto is producing the film alongside Avi Arad, known for films like Spider-Man and Uncharted. Wes Ball, who directed The Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is at the helm, and the script is being penned by Derek Connolly, who worked on Jurassic World as well as Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.

Plot details are still under wraps, so it’s unclear if it’ll adapt a specific game—like Ocarina of Time or Breath of the Wild—or tell an original story. Ball also said he wants it to feel “real” and “serious,” hinting at a balance between epic adventure and emotional weight. No word yet on whether Link will speak, which is a big question for fans since he’s traditionally silent in the games.
