The 24-year-old also passed up two other chances to give the visitors the lead in what was a disappointing first-half performance.

City were made to pay with Evanilson putting Bournemouth ahead after 21 minutes before City mounted an impressive second-half fightback sparked by Haaland’s equaliser.

Roy Keane, on punditry duty for ITV1, aimed stinging criticism at the City striker after his limp first-half display, accusing him and his teammates of ‘strolling’ around in the south coast sunshine.

‘We actually didn’t fancy him [from the spot], he was very lackadaisical, his record isn’t great too,’ Keane said.

‘Then he misses another chance and he’s smiling and grinning away.

‘City have been strolling around the place and it’s really getting on my nerves. No intention, no conviction in their play, no physicality.

‘Bournemouth just about deserve the lead but Man City strolling about the place is not a good sign.’
