Waterjet Driving Car Bulletproof Glass Wheels
Driving on wheels made of bulletproof glass is possible, just not recommended. That said, Dan and Mitch of the Waterjet Channel went ahead with the experiment anyways. Why? Bulletproof glass is typically made of layered polycarbonate and glass, giving it exceptional durability.

They mounted these glass wheels, cut with a 60,000 psi waterjet, onto a 1972 Ford Pinto to see how they would perform under the weight and stress of driving. Cutting and shaping the glass required precision, as bulletproof glass is notoriously tough.

Waterjet Driving Car Bulletproof Glass Wheels

The bulletproof glass wheels managed to hold up under static weight, but once the vehicle started moving, things quickly turned south. The glass, while strong against impacts like bullets, couldn’t handle the dynamic stresses of everyday driving, whether it be rolling, turning, or just bearing the car’s weight over uneven surfaces.

The cut sounded perfect, but you need to do it in ONE pass. Any repeat passes will create alternative lines for cracks to spider off. Once the one line is made, make a few exit paths spiraling out from the circle and gently flex the glass so that the score-marks you made open up a bit more. Be careful not to wait too long, as oddly enough, the crack will gradually re-knit over the next 30 seconds to a minute,” said one commenter.
