Liverpool fans believe they have found the perfect replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold in Curtis Jones following his impressive display at right-back against Everton.

Alexander-Arnold is ready to walk away from Anfield on a free transfer at the end of the season to join Real Madrid in a decision that has enraged Liverpool supporters.

The England international has not played for the Reds since that bombshell dropped, missing Wednesday’s Merseyside derby victory with an ankle problem that also ruled him out of the Carabao Cup final last month.

Alexander-Arnold’s regular deputy Conor Bradley also missed out having only just returned to training from a hamstring injury that has sidelined him since February.

While Jarell Quansah has also played at right-back this season, Slot left him among his substitutes with midfielder Jones deployed at right-back for just the fifth time in his senior career.

Jones had a fine game in that unfamiliar role as his side sealed a 1-0 win, making a number of key tackles.

The 24-year-old also showed his class late on in the game, calmly and accurately hooking away a cross in his own box with two Everton players for company.

Liverpool fans gushed over his ‘world class’ performance at right-back with Jones congratulated by Alexander-Arnold as he left the pitch.

‘Hey Trent, Curis Jones is here. We’re all good,’ one Liverpool fan wrote on X with another adding: ‘Jones has just saved Liverpool millions, he is our replacement for Trent.’

WatchLFC wrote: ‘This Curtis Jones performance is honestly so special to me you don’t understand. I can’t believe a player like this was produced on Merseyside. The confidence. The poise. The football intelligence. The football arrogance. He’s everything I want in a player.’

Another fan hailed Jones for his ‘perfect’ performance, writing: ‘Jones is the perfect fit for our right-back position if Trent and Bradley isn’t available. What a good performance from him tonight

With Alexander-Arnold’s exit seemingly imminent, some fans even suggested Jones should be made first-choice right-back this season.

‘Curtis Jones is above Trent in the order at RB for me after this performance.’

Speaking ahead of kick-off, Arne Slot explained he picked Jones at right-back ahead of Quansah because his team needed to ‘do better with the ball.’

‘We have to do better with the ball, and if the ball is in play, we have to do better – that’s what we’re trying,’ Slot said.

‘That’s one of the reasons why I chose Curtis at full-back.’
