The Tour Championship has become the regular penultimate tournament on the snooker calendar and one of the highlights of the season.

Every match at the event at Manchester Central is a best-of-19 and only the top 12 on the one-year ranking list qualify, so it is exclusively for players in form this season.

Big names have already fallen this week, thanks largely to the immense form of Barry Hawkins, who has been playing brilliantly.

The Hawk thrashed Masters champion Shaun Murphy 10-1 in his opening game and then beat world number one Judd Trump 10-5 in the quarter-finals.

Mark Williams also fell early, losing 10-3 to Ding Junhui as he tries to adapt to his new contact lenses, while Wu Yize and Si Jiahui also lost in their opening rounds.

The World Championship in Sheffield is now just a matter of days away, with every player in this competition harbouring genuine hopes of lifting the trophy at the Crucible.

They will all be hoping to rustle up some form and confidence ahead of the Worlds, but first thing’s first, they have a job to do in Manchester.
