British actresses Joanne Froggatt (“Downton Abbey”), Lara Pulver (“Sherlock”), and Mandeep Dhillon (“CSI: Vegas”) spoke about starring in the new series “MobLand” on Paramount+.

A global crime series, “MobLand” was created by Ronan Bennett, and it was directed by Guy Ritchie, both of which also served as executive producers.

Background on ‘MobLand’ on Paramount+

The synopsis is: Power is up for grabs as the Harrigans and Stevensons, two warring London crime families, clash in a kill-or-be-killed battle that threatens to topple empires and ruin lives.

Pierce Brosnan stars as Conrad Harrigan, the patriarch of the family. Caught in the crossfire is Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy), the street-smart “fixer” as dangerous as he is handsome, who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide.

As kingdom goes up against kingdom, lines will be crossed — and the only saving grace is a bet-your-life guarantee: family above everything.

In “MobLand,” Mandeep Dhillon plays Seraphina, Conrad’s daughter, while Lara Pulver is Bella Harrigan, Kevin’s wife, and Joanne Froggatt portrays Jan Da Souza, Harry’s wife.

The actresses open up about what they love most about their characters in ‘MobLand’

“I love that Seraphina is driven by power and money,” Mandeep said. “She is really a badass boss bitch, and I love her!”

Lara said, “All of these female characters are pretty strong women, which is so fun, and they are complex and they are messy. I mean nobody depicts that better than Helen Mirren playing Maeve, which I think we’ve all enjoyed… not only being able to witness them while working with them in a scene but also, then watching the final product.”

Joanne remarked, “For me, I love that Jan is Harry’s equal. Harry is feared, respected, and very powerful in most areas of his life but when he comes home to Jan he is just on the equal footing, and she stands up to him and she is just as powerful as he is.”

The actresses share the lessons learned from this screenplay

On the lessons learned from this screenplay, Lara reflected, “Jez Butterworth, as we know, is quite the master from his stage work and his screen work of family politics and the messy gray stuff that happens within every family.”

“Hopefully, this taught me that I have a bit more integrity than my character, and that I’m a bit more honorable,” Lara said with a sweet laugh.

Mandeep expressed, “I like how Seraphina just takes up her space, and this has taught me that I would like to be more like that in life… like to take up more of my space. I like that in Seraphina and I like to be more like that.”

The actresses talk about working with Pierce Brosnan, Tom Hardy, and Helen Mirren

On working with Pierce Brosnan, Tom Hardy, and Helen Mirren, all three ladies concurred, “It was amazing, great, and really wonderful.”

“These actors was what attracted us to the project initially, along with Guy Ritchie,” Lara explained.

“It was incredible, and I think the audiences will be really surprised by Helen and Pierce’s characters,” Joanne said.

“I don’t think the audiences have seen Pierce or Helen in anything like Maeve or Conrad,” Joanne added.

Closing thoughts on ‘MobLand’

For their fans and viewers, Lara said, “We want the audience to be entertained!”

“As the episodes unfold, they get bigger and bigger, and the cliffhangers get bigger and more surprising,” Joanne acknowledged.

“I hope the fans get enjoyment and entertainment. I hope people get really excited about the following week’s episodes like I am. I can’t wait to watch because as the story unfolds, it gets really, really exciting,” Joanne elaborated.

“It’s so nice to be a part of a genre piece like this but finish leaving an episode wanting to know more, because then I feel on some level we must care about the consequences of these people and their actions, and that’s what I think is a nice balancing act to get in a show,” Lara concluded.

“MobLand” is available to stream on Paramount+ as of March 30th.
