Fans grossed out as Ederson reveals his bizarre superstition at Man City | Football

Footballers are renowned for being a superstitious bunch, repeating habits they believe have brought them good luck in previous successes.
Former Chelsea captain John Terry, for instance, claimed to have numerous rituals throughout his career, from sitting in one spot on the team coach to listening to the same Usher album over and over again.
Before him, legendary ex-England striker Gary Lineker was known to swap his shirt at half-time if he had failed to find the net in the opening 45 minutes of games.
But Ederson has made fans feel rather queasy after revealing his own unique routine, one he has somehow maintained throughout his long reign Manchester City’s number one.
Despite being known for clean sheets, Ederson, speaking to Shay Given for the BBC’s Football Focus programme, explained how he had been wearing the same pair of boxer shorts on matchdays for the last EIGHT YEARS.

If what Ederson says is correct, that’s 363 games, stretching way back to August 12, 2017, when the Brazilian made his City first-team debut in a 2-0 victory away to Brighton in the Premier League. Ew.
‘I have only one superstition. I play every game in the same boxers. Eight years, the same boxers,’ the City goalkeeper said.

A visibly gobsmacked Given replied, ‘No way. They must be… not in good shape,’ before the pair burst into a fit of laughter.
‘Probably why he stinks up the field,’ @v_eektorrrr joked on X, while City fan @Cityjoul123 responded: ‘Boxers full of holes then just like his goalkeeping.’
‘Absolute criminal. Needs to be investigated,’ @KayLFC05_ wrote.
X user @hey_noble went a little further, tweeting: ‘Lock this guy up immediately.’

Ederson’s knackered old pants will get their 364th run out when City travel to Old Trafford for what promises to be an intriguing Manchester derby this weekend.
The six-time Premier League winner will hope his boxers bring him better fortunes than they have done for much of the campaign, with Pep Guardiola’s men at risk of missing out on Champions League qualification this season.
‘We must work more,’ Ederson told Sky Sports before the recent international break.
‘We must give our best every day, every season and give everything until good moments come.
‘Of course, sometimes it’s different but the most important thing is you give everything, every day in training.’
Ederson has less than 18 months remaining on his current deal at the Etihad and talks over a possible extension have so far come to nothing.
The former Benfica star has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League for some time, but City will only listen to offers if the player makes it clear he wants to leave in the summer.
