Background on DeeAnn

A Niagara Falls native, national recording artist, DeeAnn DiMeo has her roots anchored in gospel, blues/jazz, and soul.

In 2019, she was inducted into the Niagara Falls Music Hall of Fame and has won multiple Buffalo Music awards for “Best Female Vocalist.”

She has fronted several bands as the lead singer and primary songwriter, receiving airplay across the country in college and jazz stations with previous projects and currently with her new single “Simply Beautiful.”

How did ‘Simply Beautiful’ come about?

My producer, Ted Perlman and a good friend suggested simultaneously that I should record Simply Beautiful. I agreed and fell in love with it. We recorded at Station West Studio & Highway 70 Sound in Nashville, Tennessee.

I was blessed with some of Nashville’s best musicians: Ted on Guitar, Jonathan Nixon on Bass, Jody Nardone on B3 organ and piano, Brian Czach on drums, and with the background singers – Moe Loughran and Damien Horne.

The vibe was sublime from the moment we began recording. Great feel!!

What inspires your music and songwriting?

Life inspires my lyrics and melody. We all experience trials and hopefully the lessons we learn inspire our growth. While having coffee with a friend, I can be moved by our conversation and begin creating a song.

Sometimes, in the middle of the night I hear a melody, and/or lyrics and I have to get up and write it down before I lose it.

Also, I am a hopeless romantic and love writing about love, or being in love.

How does it feel to be an artist in the digital age? (Now with streaming, technology, and social media being so prevalent?)

Technology is astounding with its instant gratification. Being able to collaborate with other musicians accelerates the possibilities of expanding our ideas and creativity. Social media’s instantaneous news helps increase growth in our brand.

However, it can harm us if we are not careful. We need to remember to communicate one on one, and “check in” with each other.

What do your plans for the future include?

I’m excited to start working with Urban Influencer Radio. I’m finishing up my album with my producer Ted Perlman and we are planning a June release date.

What is your advice for young and emerging artists?

Believe in YOU. There will be people and situations that will bring you down. Follow your gut. Never compare yourself to anyone. You are unique.

Stay humble, and remember not to take everything so seriously. Enjoy the journey, and do not focus so much on the destination.

Were there any moments in your career that helped define you?

Yes, the losses in my life, my brother, son, and father all in a short span of time made me realize, we are not promised tomorrow.

A big moment early in my career was opening up for George Jones (The Possum) at the Erie County Fair Grandstand in New York.

Another crucial experience was when I first started singing in church for a family’s funeral, I felt their deep appreciation for my voice.

I realized then that I need to use the gift God has given me to help others by giving them joy and love.

What does the word success mean to you?

Success is being happy and peaceful in your own skin and in your life. We can’t control others or situations, but we can control how we react to them.

Success isn’t measured by how much we have materialistically, but in how we make others feel.

What would you like to tell our readers about ‘Simply Beautiful’?

It’s a passionate love song, and takes me in a new direction in terms of production. Combined, they allowed me to express a part of my voice and access parts of my soul that I hadn’t before, and is the beginning of a new era for my music.

“Simply Beautiful” is available on Apple Music and Spotify.
