Singer-songwriter Izze Stein chatted about her new music, musical influences, and being a part of the digital age.

On Thursday, April 3, Stein performed for an “Emerging Artist Showcase” at Joanne Trattoria in the Upper West Side of New York, which is owned by Lady Gaga’s father Joe Germanotta. Stein was joined by fellow performers Katerina Athena and Parker Phillips.

On performing at Joanne Trattoria, she said, “This is really exciting! We are in the backstage area now, and there is Lady Gaga music playing in the background.”

“I am just so excited to see everyone else in the ‘Emerging Artist Showcase’ and see who shows up tonight, because you never know who is going to show up at Joanne,” she said.

Favorite musical artists

Stein listed Amy Winehouse, Joni Mitchell, and Erykah Badu as three of her favorite recording artists. “Those are my three favorites,” she admitted.

Music and songwriting inspirations

“I like to write about the most difficult things in my life,” she said. “I like to put those emotions on the page so I can heal.”

The digital age

On being a part of the digital age age, Stein said, “It’s a completely different game. It’s a challenge. I am definitely a live performer.”

“I am slowly learning how to present myself live as I would on digital,” she said. “I am actually starting to have fun with it.”

Future plans

Regarding her future plans, she shared, “I just released by debut original album, which is called ‘QUESTIONS’ and I have my next album written, but for now, I am going to stay in my ‘QUESTIONS’ era.”

Dream duet choices in music

When asked about her dream duet choices in music, she responded, “Of course, I would love to perform a jazz duet with Lady Gaga, and I would love to collaborate with Alicia Keys and Cleo Sol.”

Career-defining moment: Playing the Apollo Theater

Stein listed performing at the historic Apollo Theater four times as a career-defining moment. “I think the Apollo is the best venue in New York, and I just love the energy there,” she exclaimed.

Stage of her life

On the title of the current chapter of her life, she said with a sweet laugh, “QUESTIONS,” which coincides with her record title. “That’s how I feel about everything at the moment,” she said. “I have ‘questions’ on how to navigate it all.”

Success

Regarding her definition of the word success, Stein said, “Success, to me, means being able to have a life full of performing, writing, and connecting.”

“Of course, I love this singer-songwriter path and also to have a family and to build something in that sense too,” she added.

Message for her fans and supporters

For her fans and supporters, she said, “Live your dream and pursue your dreams. I think it’s important for all of us to get clarity in what our dreams look like.”

“The more we can know ourselves and what we want and live that, the better the world will be because only then will we be living our true joys,” she concluded.
