Nintendo just shared some news that’s got Switch fans in the U.S. buzzing—and not in a good way. They were supposed to start taking pre-orders for the Switch 2 on April 9, 2025, but now that’s been put on hold. Why? Well, they’re trying to figure out how new tariffs and some shaky market stuff might mess with their plans.

The Switch 2 got its big reveal during a Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025, with a launch planned for June 5 and a price tag starting at $450. Everyone was excited—until the very next day, April 3, when hefty tariffs were announced, like 46% on stuff from Vietnam and 49% from Cambodia. Turns out, those are places where Nintendo makes some of its gear. Caught off guard, Nintendo’s now scrambling to see how these extra costs might hit them.

For now, the June 5 launch date is still a go, but pushing back pre-orders hints that Nintendo’s rethinking things. They might have to bump up the price and pass some of those tariff costs to us buyers, or maybe they’ll swallow the hit to keep it at $450. Meanwhile, folks in the UK and Europe are still pre-ordering like normal, but here in the U.S., we’re stuck waiting for Nintendo to sort it out and give us a new date. Bummer, right?
